Breast Enlargement

Breast augmentation can enhance the body contour, balance breast size irregularities and reconstruct tissue following surgery. The results can be very satisfying through safe, effective procedures that can alter the appearance of a woman's body.

To increase breast size, saline implants are now used in place of the silicone implants which no longer have FDA approval. This surgery is performed either in an office facility, an outpatient surgical center or hospital, usually under general anesthesia. The incision necessary for the implant can be made in the crease where the breast meets the chest, around the areola (the dark skin surrounding the nipple) or in the arm pit. Newer endoscopic procedures involving incisions made lower in the truncal area are also becoming more popular. Scars are usually inconspicuous. The breast implant may be inserted directly under breast tissue or beneath the chest wall muscle.

The procedure usually takes one to two hours and the first 48 hours of recovery requires reduced activity. Stitches are typically removed after 10 days and the breast swelling subsides in weeks three to five. Pain is controlled with pain medications during the first few days. Most patients return to work within a few days and scars fade over several months. The breasts are usually sensitive to direct stimulation for two to three weeks, then normal sensation returns. After breast enlargement, routine mammograms require a special technique to ensure a reliable reading.

Every year thousands of women achieve great success with this remarkable procedure. A revitalized body image can make you more comfortable with yourself and confident with others.

As with any medical procedure, there are certain inherent risks which should be discussed with a qualified physician. Costs vary depending upon the extent of the surgery and areas treated.
